Nostalgia's Corner: "Eyes Without A Face" - Billy Idol
“Eyes Without a Face” was the second single released on Billy Idol’s 1983 album, Rebel Yell. The song became Idol’s first top 10 hit in the US, charting at number 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
The chorus includes Idol’s then-girlfriend, Perri Lister singing backing vocals “Les yeux sans visage.”
The concept of the song came from a French horror film called “Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face)”about a plastic surgeon who vows to restore the face of his daughter after a horrific car accident. The daughter wears a mask in the film that only displays her eyes. Idol used the term to discuss a relationship plagued by infedelity.
Steve Stevens helped in the writing a recording process by creating the guitar riff and playing the synths in the song.
