It’s likely impossible to think of the music of the 1980’s and not think of Prince. On the fourth anniversary of Prince’s death, we look back at the life of the musician who will forever be considered one of rock’s greatest artists.

Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, the artist developed a love of music at a young age and wrote his first song at 7.

Prince released his debut album, For You, in 1974 at just 19 years old. He quickly rose to fame with the release of four more albums in the late 70’s and early 80’s. His first number one hit, “ I Wanna Be Your Lover” was released in 1979.

In 1984, Prince starred in his first major motion picture, Purple Rain. He released the soundtrack, which served as his sixth studio album, to critical acclaim.

Prince continued to achieve success throughout the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s, releasing new music and touring.

To commemorate the songwriting prowess and talent of Prince, I’d like to share some of my favorite songs and performances of his.
